Let’s Talk About Audio Equipment For Video & Streaming
Audio Equipment, what do you use?
Way back in the olden days of live video broadcasting (like 8 years ago) the most difficult thing to deal with was the echo chamber of noise that would come in when someone new to live video would join the conversation. Everyone would scramble to let the person know that if they grabbed a pair of earbuds or headphones we would be able to continue in peace.
Most of us had some kind of dangling wires from the ears that extended off screen to the computer or laptop connection.
So much has happened in the technology of live streaming software that we hardly ever think about how difficult it used to be. Also, how far the equipment has come to make good sounding, high quality hardware affordable and easy to implement.
Michael and Heather will be discussing their personal use of audio equipment for their videos and livestreams and asking the audience for input on what they have used.
Headsets to stand alone mics, what is best?
It isn’t a simple one or the other answer.
There seems to be a lot to consider when picking the right equipment for sound in video and live streaming. For example, Heather is an artist and requires freedom of movement. Wired options as well as fixed, stand alone mics have not been a practical option for her.
Michael, on the other hand, prefers the use of a stand alone mic as his preference is the sound quality over convenience or movement.
The type of hardware is not the only thing to consider as the software used to control the hardware is another piece to this intricate puzzle. You may have the best equipment money can buy, but if you are pushing sound through a compressed program or streaming software, your sound may not sync or may be distorted.
The discussion begins with what you want to accomplish
It is nearly impossible for anyone to say without a doubt, “You should buy (or install) THIS _____ and all your sound dreams will come true.” We need more input from you on what your goals are and how your set up works.
It is our hope that you will join the conversation to figure out what is best for you and your situation as we will be discussing all this and more during the live show. If you decide you want a more one on one fix, we are happy to help. Just join the community. It is one of the many perks.
Did you know?
Michael’s microphone is quite close to his mouth even though it isn’t visible on screen. He uses a pretty cool trick to “hide” the microphone from view and it is one of the many tips he shares within the community.
