Google Assistant - A Conversation with Product Expert, Randall Leverette

Have you ever wished you had a personal secretary?

Are we even allowed to say secretary anymore? I think “assistant” is the PC term, right? What about virtual assistants? What about assisted technology such as Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant?

What a great way to start off the new year! Getting help from technology. Let’s take a close look at Google Assistant…what it is, how we can use it, what benefits it offers and how it can help you have a fabulous 2022!

What is Google Assistant?

Google Assistant is an artificial intelligence–powered virtual assistant developed by Google that is primarily available on mobile and smart home devices.

Some devices may include smart speakers, smart displays and Android phones. Using voice commands you can play music, set reminders, make calls, and access Google maps and so much more.

Unlike the company's previous virtual assistant, Google Now, the Google Assistant can engage in two-way conversations. Just say, “Hey Google! Read this article to me.” to begin and you can respond with “Thank you” when it is done to hear the assistant engage with you.

This week on the Tinkering With Tech show we have a fabulous guest to start the new year off right. Randall Leverette joins us again this year to discuss something he is very familiar with, Google Assistant.

He will tell us even more capabilities of this wonderful technology almost everyone has at their fingertips if you have an android device and with a little investment can be accessed all over the home.

If you want more of what Randall has had to say before, here is a playlist of the previous episodes where Randall shared his Google Product Expertise with us before:

You know Michael loves his Google gear.

How many times a day do you think Michael says, “Hey Google….”

I would love to hear your predictions in the comments.

Use cases, benefits and how it can help.

A good assistant is capable of handling your requests, but much like it’s human counterpart, you need to learn how to properly interact. Once you do, there are a lot of possibilities available to get your tasks, to-do list, communication and informational needs under control.

It is available to help you with tasks and to-do’s such as:

  • "Set a 15-minute timer for cookies"

  • "Remind me to drink water every morning"

  • "Add eggs and bread to my shopping list"

It can help with communication needs such as:

  • "Read my new emails"

  • "Text Sam ‘On my way’"

  • "Call Grandma on speakerphone"

It can give you local information such as:

  • "Give me directions to the airport"

  • "Find the closest ATM"

  • "What time does the post office close?"

Comments

  1. I would guess that Michael says "Ok Google" 351 times per day. This number includes the number of times he says "Ok Google Stop" when it falsely triggers.
